The Senate is set to vote perhaps next week, on the Healthy Forest Initiative
Compromise Bill. This supposedly "compromise" is little different from the
original House Bill 1904. The "compromise" bill favors the timber industry and
still does little to protect homes and communities. There is a lot of vague
language which could be used to increase logging and nothing to protect forests.
This is still a very bad bill and the Forest Protection Committee is urging
activists to contact their Senators and ask them to oppose the Healthy Forest
Initiative Compromise bill. Please call today. Jerry Neff, Sierra Club's
National Forest Protection Committee.
