Howdy,
Here is an event that did not make it into the last Sierra Club -
Iowa City Area Group newspaper, that I thought you may be interested
in.

There is a cabin camping event next weekend February 9 - 11 at
Cordova Park on Red Rock Lake 20+ miles SE of Des Moines. We have one
cabin that sleeps 8 to 10 people.

We usually have a group breakfast on Saturday and a Potluck dinner on
Saturday night. The other meals are usually on your own to prepare.
Hikes can occur at any time on your own, or we usually have at least
one hike on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. There is plenty of
time to read, knit (yep!) or play games in the evenings. We vacate
the cabin by Noon on Sunday. Also, Neal Smith Prairie is close by if
you wish to swing by it on the way home.

The cabin has 2 regular bedrooms, 1 loft bedroom, and a sleeper sofa,
a full kitchen and bathroom w/ shower. There should be eagles on the
lake or river and lots of hot chocolate. We have plenty of room for
folks. The cost is relatively inexpensive (about ~$45 - ~$55 per
person)depending on how many attend for the entire weekend.

If this sounds interesting and you want more info, contact Jan Moore
at Home 319-626-7862, at work 319-335-8728, or by email at

For future reference we have three cabins up at Backbone State Park
this Fall around Mid-October, just in time for Fall Colors, canoeing,
hiking, and bird-watching.
