Dear Sierra Club Members:

Do you know about the events going on for March 20? Below is a notice and you are sure welcom as a group or as individuals. You can also contribute your support through us at the Iowa United Nations Association.

MARCH 20 GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION-The World STILL Says No to War

Would your group like to join others in Des Moines on March 20, 2004, the first anniversary of the Iraq war. Many organizations are planning to march in a Big Peace Parade followed by a rally, films, and teach-ins. The Des Moines event is part of the GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION sponsored by United for Peace (www.unitedforpeace.org) and International A.N.S.W.E.R. (www.internationalanswer.org).

Iowa events, culminating in Des Moines on March 20, are being coordinated by a number of Iowa Peace groups around the state. Related events are being planned in cities across Iowa from March 18 through March 21.

The Big Parade will assemble on the Drake University Campus, March 20 and commence at 1:00 PM. An indoor rally at the Olmsted Center (Parents Hall) at Drake featuring speakers Tom Hayden, International Peace Activist, and Bruce Nestor, National Lawyers Guild, will follow the parade. Films and teach-ins are scheduled to follow the rally.

We encourage you to bring friends and have a fun day.

Send us your Hands:

We are going to display our hands as a part of the display of support. Please send us a cut-out tracing of your hand (preferably on card stock, signed with your name and hometown), to show that you are Lending a Hand for Peace. We are collecting thousands of hand prints to display at the rally and then send on to Washington.

If your organization wants to cosponsor, call 515-274-4851 or eamil: [log in to unmask]

The Iowa UNA is collecting these hands as are the other organizations. We are also collecting contributions for UNICEF and the Adopt-A-Landmine project of the UNA-USA as our gesture for Lending a Hand for Peace. You can also collect for your own organization or favorite charity.

If you want to go through us, send your hands and contributions to Iowa UNA, 20 East Market St, Iowa City, IA 51145.

See you on March 20 (or send us your hand to indicate support.)

END
