CALL FOR NOMINATIONS -- BIOTECHNOLOGY TASK FORCE
The Sustainable Planet Strategy Team (SPST) is seeking nominees for
volunteers to serve on a Biotechnology Task Force. A charge explaining the
purpose of the Task Force is included below. The Task Force will have a
life of one year, providing a report at the end of 6 months and a second at
the end of the year. Members of the Task Force will participate in
conference calls, communicate regularly by e-mail, and take on specific
projects related to the work of the Task Force.
The SPST is looking for candidates with:
- interest in biotechnology issues;
- some experience with and/or general knowledge of Club structure and
programs, particularly those which impact resource consumption; or with
other programs regarding biotechnology;
- willingness and ability to work cooperatively with people holding
differing perspectives on the best strategies for the Club to follow in the
area of biotechnology;
- some experience or familiarity with campaign strategizing, message
development; media strategies, and/or grassroots organizing; and
- sufficient flexibility in time commitments to allow full volunteer
participation in this task force.

later than FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1999. If you want to suggest someone else,

CHARGE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY TASK FORCE
The Sustainable Planet Strategy Team (SPST) adopts the following charge for
the Biotechnology Task Force:
BIOTECHNOLOGY TASK FORCE CHARGE - approved April 15, 1999
TASK FORCE MEMBERSHIP AND OPERATION
The Task Force members and chair are appointed by SPST.
The Task Force may appoint corresponding members, subject to the approval
of the SPST. Decisions of the Committee may be appealed to the SPST.
LIFESPAN OF TASK FORCE: 12 MONTHS FROM DATE OF SPST APPROVAL, WITH REPORT
TO SPST AT 6 MONTHS AND AT ONE YEAR.
TASK ASSIGNMENTS:
I. DEFINING BIOTECHNOLOGY ISSUES
1. Invite input from Club members to find areas of interest in
biotechnology related issues within the Club.
2. Recommend the range of biotechnology issues for Club consideration.
3. Reevaluate the relevance of the existing conservation policy on
biotechnology.
II. DEFINING CLUB'S NEXT STEPS WITHIN ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNITY
1. Survey other environmental organizations to ascertain role other
environmental organizations already have on biotechnology issues.
2. Recommend the next steps the Sierra Club should take within the
environmental community on biotechnology issues.
