Subject: Grizzly Bears: Singing and Dancing Their Way to Protection -- You
Can Help!
Date: Wed, 1 Feb 2006 14:02:07 -0500
please pass this along to your friends and family, spread the word far and
wide.......
SINGING AND DANCING GRIZZLY BEARS?? OH MY!!
With just two weeks left for Americans to voice their concern about the
Bush administration’s proposal to remove federal Endangered Species Act
protections for the Yellowstone grizzly bear, the Sierra Club has
commissioned a group of singing and dancing bears to help spread the urgent
word about their plight.
In addition, we’ve launched an online petition drive to collect 120,000
signatures by the close of the public comment period (scheduled for Feb.
15) to help save these magnificent creatures.
It only takes a minute to of your time to make a difference. Click
http://www.sierraclub.org/grizzlysong/ to get serenaded by the Singing
Grizzlies -- two tiny, entertaining bears literally singing to save their
hides. After you listen, click on "Sign the petition" and fill in the
blanks.
The Yellowstone grizzly is depending on you to protect it. The bears have
no voice of their own so you must give them yours. Act today and encourage
your friends and family to as well.
The Yellowstone grizzly bear was first listed as threatened under the
Endangered Species Act in 1975. Since first being listed as "threatened"
under the Endangered Species Act 30 years ago, restoring grizzly bear
numbers to their current levels has taken tremendous public investment.
Lifting federal protections for the bear right now is far too risky. We are
just starting to realize a return on our investment. The threats to grizzly
bears and their habitat have only been amplified since then. Now, sprawling
development, oil and gas drilling, logging, road building, and off-road
vehicles are crowding grizzly bears out of the last pockets of wilderness
they need to survive.
The Yellowstone grizzly bear is an irreplaceable part of America’s natural
heritage. Given the hard work the American people have invested in
restoring the grizzly, there must be an insurance plan to make sure the
success we've begun to see endures.
