Dear Sierrans and outdoor lovers,

Here is some information about our Cedar Wapsie Group camping trip to
Wildwood Acres August 6th, 7th and 8th. Everyone is welcome. The whole
weekend will be very informal- you can come and go as you please. The
only set costs are $5 per night for tent camping, or $10 per night with
electric hook-up.

Wildwood is a private campground near Maquoketa to which one of our Cedar
Wapsie Group Sierrans has a membership. There are cabins and trailers in
several different areas, and a separate area for the tent campers. There
is a community building only 50 to 100 yards from the tent area that has
grills and a fireplace and stoves and a refrigerator and showers. There
will be some community meals- on a pot luck basis. Saturday night for
sure, and possibly for Saturday or Sunday breakfast.

Friday night we will probably go over to The Longbranch which is nearby,
in Canton, and eat together if people want to. It is the restaurant
who's picture is in the dictionary next to "rustic". But it's actually a
hoot, and quite good.

There is another building a short distance away from the camping area
with a nice pool. There is a creek that runs through for canoeing or
tubing. Gene (the Sierran who's also a member here) has some tubes and
there is a guy nearby who rents canoes. There are lots of woods for
hiking and roads/trails for biking. Gary Donnermeyer is hoping to come
and lead a plant identification hike on Saturday afternoon.

How do you get there? From Cedar Rapids:

7: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto DUBUQUE RD/US-151 N. Continue to follow US-151
N.16.1 milesMap

8: Take the IA-64/CR-E28 exit- exit number 54- toward
ANAMOSA/MAQUOKETA.0.4 milesMap

9: Turn RIGHT onto IA-64.14.1 milesMap

10: Turn LEFT onto IA-136/MADISON ST. Continue to follow IA-136.7.5
milesMap

11: Turn RIGHT onto CR-E17.6.6 milesMap

12: End at Canton IAMap

At the east end of the bridge over the Maquoketa River in Canton you'll
see signs for Wildwood Acres. If you get lost, just ask someone.
Everyone is nice out there. 20 of us had a fun weekend last year. We'd
love it if you could join us this year. Please write or call me if you
have any questions,

Mike Wyrick 362-6662/393-8948/350-1063
