Black Hills Wildlands Under Attack

The Forest Service has proposed to increase the amount of logging in a
controversial timber sale in the Beaver Park Roadless Area of South
Dakota's Black Hills National Forest.  Biodiversity Associates says that
citizen protest over the past year including letters and possible legal
action resulted in postponement of the Veteran/Boulder timber sale.

However, the Forest Service recently proposed expanding the sale and is
now taking public comments.   Biodiversity Associates is calling on
activists to "ramp up the pressure and push extra hard for complete
protection of the Beaver Park roadless area," the last forested roadless
area in South Dakota.

.. . .The Veteran/Boulder timber sale in the Beaver Park Roadless Area is
a clear example of why the Administration needs to develop a policy that
protects all roadless areas from roadbuilding, logging and other
destructive activities.  Just 0.8% of the Black Hills N.F. is currently
protected as wilderness and this timber sale would render the only
remaining roadless area ineligible for wilderness designation.   Please
