I would also like to say thank Neila for the work she did on the nuclear issue both this and last legislative sessions. If Neila had not spotted the bills early last session and alerted us about it, it would have flown right through the legislature.

Also one of our members - Mike Carberry - worked tirelessly on the nuclear issue the last 2 years -- last year as a volunteer for Sierra Club and this year as a lobbyist for Friends of the Earth.

Finally we had a great coalition of groups working on this issue.

Job well done!

pam

Dear Wallace and Pamela,
Victory is ours!
The Iowa Legislature adjourned May 9, 2012, without the Senate debatingHF561, the bill that would allow MidAmerican Energy to begin charging customersfor a nuclear power plant that may or may not ever be built.
You played a big part in successfully stalling the billuntil the clock ran out.
Since the issue came up as a study bill during the 2010session, the Sierra Club Iowa Chapter has distributed seven action alerts. No doubt you were tired of hearing from meabout the issue. It was, however, theconstant pressure on the legislators that caused this bill to die.
I sincerely thank you for staying with us on this issue. We couldn't have done it without ourmembers and supporters actively participating in the political process.
Sincerely,
Neila Seaman, Director
Iowa Chapter, Sierra Club
