Thanks, Wally.
I knew that Dave Loebsack had cast some bad environmental votes in 2012, but I was shocked when I went through the LCV scorecard in more detail. Among other things, Loebsack was loud and proud for KeystoneXL and voted for deregulating the coal industry as well as for revoking the EPA's authority to regulate coal ash.
Looking through all the House members' scores, I learned that only 27 House Democrats had a worse environmental voting record last year than Loebsack did. One of those was Leonard Boswell, but most were Democrats representing heavily Republican districts in the south or rust belt. In contrast, a guy like Peter DeFazio of Oregon had a strong environmental voting score last year, even though he represents a tougher district than Loebsack does.
It would be helpful for environmentalists who live in Iowa's second district to let Loebsack know that you are not satisfied with his voting record lately. If we don't hold politicians accountable, we shouldn't be surprised when they throw us under the bus. Loebsack knows better, because the first five years he was in Congress, he was a pretty strong environmental vote. I know I won't be making any future donations to his re-election campaigns.
Laurie

Bleeding Heartland today has an excellent discussion of the LCV scores. Here is the link: http://www.bleedingheartland.com/diary/6067/iowa-congressional-voting-on-the-environment-not-a-pretty-picture

http://scorecard.lcv.org/sites/scorecard.lcv.org/files/LCV_Scorecard_2012_0.pdf is a link to the League of Conservation Voters website, with lots of information. The Senate (p. 12) and House (p. 18) score card votes are there.Ginger> Wally, I don't understand how the scores are computed??> Renata Sack> On Feb 20, 2013, at 12:13 PM, Ronald Spears wrote:> >> okay - could use more rational on this>> >> >> ----- Original Message ----->> From: "Wally Taylor" < [log in to unmask] >>> To: [log in to unmask] >> Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2013 10:54:40 AM GMT -06:00 US/Canada Central>> Subject: Re: LCV scores for Iowa Senators and Reps>> >> League of Conservation Voters.
