This is the weekly update of the Pipeline. Double asterisks ** denote new
items. Please FORWARD updates (updates for 2003 are welcome), questions

Conservation Update:
(These are ongoing items? until further updates are received)

International:
- Human Rights & Environment: Defending Forest Defenders; 3-5 countries
   around the world, report out in Fall
- Johannesburg Earth Summit continues?

Environmental Quality:
-.  "Leaving Our Communities at Risk" report, describing how the Bush
administration's environmental policies affect the lives of millions of
Americans every day, due out September 17th.
The report focuses on the administration's refusal to reauthorize the
"polluter pays tax" that is essential to continue cleanups at thousands of
Superfund sites across the country.  It shows how toxic waste sites harm
people's health, the environment, quality of life and economic vitality in
15 communities. The report also highlights the administration's clean air
policies by describing communities at risk from increased pollution from
coal-burning power plants, a refinery and a paper plant.   For more
