Your Senators: The Good and the Bad on the Climate Debate

Your Senators: The Good and the Bad on the Climate Debate

Last week, Senator Tom Harkin was among 54 senators who supported an effort to end delay tactics and allow meaningful debate on the Lieberman-Warner-Boxer Climate Security Act of 2008. Unfortunately, Senator Chuck Grassley failed to support these efforts. Although we didn't reach the 60 votes needed to advance the proposal, this tremendous momentum sets the stage for a new president and Congress to enact strong legislation that will more effectively build a clean energy economy and prevent the worst consequences of global warming. Please tell Senator Grassley to stop blocking progress on the most important environmental issue of our time and write to thank Senator Harkin.

Click here to tell Senator Grassley you're disappointed.

Click here to thank Senator Harkin.

                              Sincerely,

                              Tell-a-Friend!

                              What's At Stake:
The vote revealed a real shift in Congress's stance on addressing the climate crisis. Even among the bill's opponents, there was nearly unanimous acknowledgment of what scientists have long known-global warming is real and people in the United States and around the world are already feelings the consequences, from droughts, to more extreme weather, to sea level rise. The tremendous momentum coming out of this vote sets the stage for a new president and Congress to enact strong legislation that will more effectively build a clean energy economy and prevent the worst consequences of global warming.
