This is my letter to the editor regarding Rep. Ganskes statement in the
paper criticising a program that Senator Harkin sponsored and we
supported.
Representative Ganske's statement in the Des Moines Register on Thursday
May
2 that the Conservation Security Program takes away conservation dollars
from Iowa farmers is a statement made from a political stand point and
not
one based on fact. Conservation dollars in the farm bill could have
been
increased but there was not the political will to do so. Since the
Conservation Security Program (CSP) has not been implemented no one
knows
how much money Iowa farmers will get. CSP is a program that gives
conservation dollars to working lands and since Iowa has many acres that
are
cropped and grazed, Iowa should get its fair share of conservation
dollars
in the CSP program.
