APPLICATION FOR TRAINING GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE,
The Sierra Club's Training Governance Committee (TGC) is seeking to fill a 
vacancy on the committee. For a better idea of the work we do, please review 
the Job Description below. Nominees must be current Sierra Club members. If 
you are interested in applying, please read and follow the instructions 
completely.

Job Description

The Training Governance Committee (TGC) is one of six Governance Committees. 
TGC is charged to identify the Club's national training priorities, the 
appropriate entity for the delivery of various training programs, and 
developing an integrated training budget that assures the necessary 
budgetary and staff resources are available.

The TGC and its subcommittees and task forces work with volunteers and staff 
to develop and oversee an integrated, multilevel conservation and 
organizational development training program that empower activists to carry 
out effective priority conservation campaigns and to build and sustain 
dynamic local groups and chapters to accomplish this goal.

Job Duties

The following are expected of TGC members:
1. Be willing to fully contribute to the work of the TGC.
2. Keep work and meeting commitments and deadlines.
3. Respond to communications in a timely manner.
4. Advise the committee of problems that may affect ones ability to meet 
commitments.
5. Hold other members accountable, and give and accept constructive 
feedback.
6. Attend and participate effectively in meetings.
7. Participate actively in the administrative and program responsibilities 
for the TGC.
8. Absorb personal expenses not reimbursed by the Sierra Club (reasonable 
lodging and transportation to/from meeting locations are reimbursed by the 
Sierra Club; personal expenses, expenses over the allowed limit, and meals 
are generally not reimbursed).

Workload

Members will be asked to:
1. Participate in one hour-long conference call each month, and to make 
additional calls as needed to carry out assigned tasks.
2. Work individually or in teams for an average of 2 to 5 hours per week to 
plan, develop, and implement the TGC?s goals and priority projects.
3. Travel an estimated three or four 3-day weekends annually to various U.S. 
locations.

Term of Office

Committee and subcommittee appointments are for a three-year term. Members 
may be reappointed for a maximum of two consecutive terms. Task force 
appointments are ad hoc.

Selection Criteria

Job-Related Selection Criteria
The following job-related criteria are used to select TGC, subcommittee or 
task force members.
1. Sierra Club Member in good standing.
2. Ability to work as a team member and communication skills.
3. General knowledge of Club structure, policies, bylaws and/or experience 
in various Club roles.
4. Previous Sierra Club leadership experience.
5. Knowledge of the Club's training program and Project ACT philosophy of 
"integrated" training and an "organizing" model.
6. Ability to review and evaluate training proposals.
7. Ability to review and provide constructive comments to others who are 
working on a policy or goal.
8. Ability to take initiative and follow through on committee work and 
accept critique of your committee work.
9. Ability to consider the range of Sierra Club needs in developing 
long-term plans for training.
10. Experience in the design of training programs, materials and evaluation.
11. Access to and basic skills in E-mail, Internet and office tools.
12. Able to travel to support TGC activities.

Additional Membership Criteria
TGC takes into consideration the following factors when filling vacancies:
1. Geographical representation.
2. Gender and age distribution.
3. Representation of various Sierra Club entities (Communications & 
Education, Conservation, Finance, Organization Effectiveness, Outdoor 
Activities).
