Seeing Nature, Seeing Ourselves: Applying Environmental Insights of Ralph
Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau to the Loess Hills.

An experiential workshop led by Rev. Robert Grant, Ph.D. focusing on the
environmental insights of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
Located at the Hitchcock Nature Center in the Loess Hills, this program will
include a morning of discussion, readings, reflection, and a hike in the
preserve as well as refreshments.
Reverend Grant earned his Ph.D. in environmental ethics from the University
of Iowa. Born and raised in southwest Iowa, he currently teaches and coaches
at St. Ambrose University in Davenport. Author of numerous environmental
ethics articles, Rev. Grant was recently recognized by the Scott County Soil &
Water Conservation District for his efforts to ameliorate local flooding via
natural hydrological system simulation.

Directions: From Interstate I-29 take the Crescent exit and travel east to
Highway 183. Hitchcock Nature Center is located 5 miles north of Crescent
