Today the Eagle View Group held an endorsement press conference covering some
state races and Congressman Leach. Leach was in attendance. Of course, part
of my introduction was to mention his co-sponsorship of NFPRA along with many
other things he has done for the environment this session. Each candidate
got a couple of minutes to say a few words.

For those of you who know Leach, you know he always has something big going
on in his brain <smile> - there's always a story. He is always thinking
bigger. Anyway, he talked about how this country used to be populated with
trees, how this country used to be populated with clean streams full of fish.
And he decided that he wanted to do something a little different to "spruce
up" his campaign. So he/they (the campaign) decided they wanted to plant
10,000 blue spruce trees. He presented me with the first little tiny blue
spruce seedling in a little burlap bag, tied with a grass type tie. Attached
in the tie was his campaign card with the Chief Seattle quote and planting
instructions. He then handed them out to everyone else that was there.

We only got one TV station news coverage, but it is the most watched station
and we were the lead off story with a good minute or so coverage, including
interviews with Leach and myself and 2 other local candidates. Sierra Club
has been running EVEC ads here in the district as well and it has been
getting a lot of attention. He said that he does not do radio and TV
advertising and that planting trees is a better use of his money. Perhaps a
response to all of our activities going on here in the district.

Thought you might enjoy hearing about the event.
