Arnie ---

I agree with the Iowa Native Plants listserve discussion. Our current
parks are being damaged with overuse already and any new destination parks
ought to be carefully planned to avoid damaging what little we have left in
Iowa. Ideally, we should be recreating or restoring an area that has been
degraded and using it as a place to educate people about nature. Not
taking an existing park and expanding its role to draw more people and
suffer more traffic pressure.

I prefer the concept of a string of smaller destination parks which would
benefit an entire region rather than a single location. Perhaps include :
--- some areas highlighting historical preservation,
--- some destination farms where people can see how Iowa farms actually
work and pick their own produce,
--- a Lewis and Clark trip where people can camp like the expedition
camped and read about what they saw,
--- a bicycle tour like Minnesota has on the Cannon River (did I get the
river right?)
