Tom, At first glance the hydrogen idea seems good. But something like this
may be too far down the road. I don't know much about Iceland but I'm
guessing they have a much smaller population than Iowa has. Also a very
large part of their energy comes from geothermal. I would guess that it would
take at least 15 or more years to put infrastructure in place even if we now
have the technology to utilize hydrogen in such a great scale.
The most immediate energy help is from conservation. And the only way that
will work is to have a workable incentive. I am a believer that a high cost
for fuel will slow demand if the cost is high enough. There could be other
types of tax incentives to get people to use less. The president's decision
to forget CAFE standards and give auto companies financial help to develop
fuel cell cars is extremely foolish. This transition period could take as
long as 30 years and a good part of that time we would have two refueling
systems. We do not have the luxury of time. Jerry Neff
