COUNCIL NOTES

Opheim to pursue new endeavors
Council's Communications Director Teresa Opheim has accepted a
position as the Regional Coordinator for the Midwest Sustainable
Agriculture Working Group. She will be based in the National Catholic
Rural Life Conference office in Des Moines. Teresa's last day at the
Council will be July 27.

Council seeks Communications Director
The Iowa Environmental Council seeks a full-time Communications
Director. The responsibilities of the position include developing
overall organizational communication strategy, and communicating the
organization's messages to our members, policy makers and the general
public. Communications Director is also responsible for Council
newsletters, news releases, media relations, and grant writing. We
are looking for a person who is the right "fit."  Generally, we are
seeking someone with most of the following qualifications: education
and experience in communications, experience in
writing/editing/proof-reading, desktop publishing, grant-writing and
media-relations, and interest in or familiarity with environmental
issues.  Actual environmental experience is a plus. To apply, send

Senator Harkin to meet with the Council
U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, Chair of the U.S. Senate Agriculture
Committee, is meeting with the Iowa Environmental Council on Friday,
August 10 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church in Des
Moines (1800 Bell Avenue, off of Fleur Drive).   Mark you calendar
now and plan to join us!  Senator Harkin will talk with Council
members and friends about the U.S. Farm Bill, and the Conservation
Security Act.

Program and Development Assistant sought
The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation seeks a full time Program and
Development Assistant. The position provides support to the land
protection and development staff including grant tracking and
reporting, proposal writing, maintaining land acquisition records,
and providing back-up services for general office administration. The
