PROTECTING OUR WATER AT THE SOURCE
REGIONAL CONFERENCE

DATE:  Saturday November 15, 2003
TIME:  8:30 am - 5:00 pm
PLACE:  Four Points Sheraton -400 Hamline Avenue North, St. Paul, MN 55104
(Located just off Interstate-94)

Free parking at hotel.  Free shuttle available to the airport and the Mall of 
America.
PRICE: $25 (a limited number of scholarships are available)

Source Water is… "untreated water from streams, rivers, lakes, or underground 
aquifers which is used to supply private wells and public drinking water" 
(Source: EPA).

CONFERENCE GOALS
Learn about Source Water Assessment and Protection programs in the Midwest:
--Discuss the benefits of protecting water at the source and the challenges 
inhibiting the effectiveness of the process
--Address status of Source Water Assessment program and current policies
--Find out what communities are doing to protect their water
--Discover how to use such programs to better protect our health

Discuss emerging issues in the field, including:
--Surface water protection
--Groundwater protection            
--Stormwater regulation
--Sprawl and Smart Growth
--Contaminants of concern
--Clean Water Act/Safe Drinking Water Act programmatic connections

Plan a future course of action:
--Identify means to overcome challenges 
--Identify tools for addressing drinking water protection
--Identify current policy gaps to protect our water
