Senate must address global warming
The Senate will shortly recess for summer without taking action on the
greatest environmental challenge of our time: global warming.
We need the Senate not to simply take action, but to take action that
truly moves toward an end to oil spills like the disaster that happened
in the Gulf. Although the flow of oil has been stopped, we must now stop
the unfettered flow of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere.
While the effects of carbon pollution are not as obvious as the tar balls
on the beaches, the oiled wildlife and the decimated fisheries and
tourist economies, the long-term repercussions of greenhouse-gas
pollution are equally devastating and the solution is the same: End our
reliance on fossil fuels.
