The Wild Planet Strategy Team (WPST) seeks to appoint four new members for
the Sierra Club’s National Public Lands Grazing Committee (GC). If you
would like to nominate yourself for appointment please complete and return
the application below by June 29, 2007.
The GC focuses on implementing the Sierra Club National Public Lands
Grazing Policy. A link to the policy can be found on the Grazing Committee
web page at http://www.sierraclub.org/grazing/<http://www.sierraclub.org/grazing/>
The committee serves as a resource to chapters and groups seeking to
implement the Sierra Club Grazing Policy. The primary goal of the Sierra
Club federal public lands grazing policy is to protect and restore native
biodiversity and achieve functional and self-sustaining ecosystems. The GC
also works to implement the Grazing Policy by writing comments on federal
decisions that are national in scope and by advocating for Congressional
legislation that will move public lands towards Sierra Club goals.
Candidates for the Grazing Committee should have general knowledge of
grazing issues and the motivation to work on resolving them. Specialized
expertise is welcome as is familiarity with Sierra Club policies and
processes at the national level. Candidates should have good management and
social skills, as well as political and strategic judgment. Nominees must
be current Sierra Club members residing in the United States.
Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement. Please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for information on the
criteria required for SCC members to be appointed as liaisons or members to
CGC and its subentities.
Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in
monthly conference calls (generally in the evening) are required as well as
the ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences. Candidates
need to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to GC
participation in addition to ongoing commitments. If you are interested in
applying, please read and follow the instructions completely. We are only
accepting self-nominations, so, please, pass this announcement on to others
you think may have an interest.
Appointments to the Grazing Committee will be made by the WPST, based on
applications and phone interviews with prospective candidates. The WPST
deals with public and private land and water management issues, including
existing special designations such as national parks, wilderness, wild
rivers, and wildlife and endangered species issues. More information about
WPST and its committees can be found at
