For your general information. If you are in or near Fort Dodge and would like to attend, that would be great.

  Iowa Senate Democrats News Release

  Senator Daryl Beall: (515) 573-7889

For Immediate Release: September 13, 2005

Beall to hold meeting on redemption center closings

State Senator Daryl Beall (D-Fort Dodge) will convene an informational meeting Wednesday to discuss the closings of two redemption centers in Fort Dodge. The meeting will be at 5 p.m. at the Fort Dodge Public Library.

Senator Beall said he has received several calls from constituents about the closings. "I'm holding this meeting to give everyone an opportunity to voice their concerns and explore solutions," Beall said.

Jeff Geerts from the Department of Natural Resources will review various options. Bill Mericle, owner of the two B & L redemption centers, will also discuss his reasons for closing them.

"We want all stakeholders to participate," Beall said. "I hope bottlers, distributors, grocery stores, environmental groups and of course consumers affected by the closings will take part in this meeting. I've also invited other area legislators because ultimately the resolution of this matter may be determined by the Legislature."

Beall said many redemption centers have closed in Iowa because they lose money with the one-cent revenue per can and bottle they receive. Because of that, Beall introduced Senate File 107<http://coolice.legis.state.ia.us/Cool-ICE/default.asp?Category=billinfo&Service=Billbook&frame=1&GA=81&hbill=SF107> that would have increased that to two cents.

  --end--
