For Immediate Release:

PROTEST AGAINST BIOTECH AGRICULTURE
& Genetically Engineered Crops

When: Monday, October 9th, 11 am. to 1 pm.

Where: Scheman Building - ISU, Ames, Iowa

Why: ISU is hosting a Symposium OCT. 8-10 titled "Engaged Institutions' Role
in Biotechnology Education" - although genetically modified crops - corn,
soybeans, potatoes, etc. - have NOT been proven safe and are implicated in
an increasing number of human and environmental health risks.

WHY ARE WE TEACHING THIS RISKY SCIENCE TO GRADESHOOL TEACHERS?
WHY IS TAXPAYER MONEY FUNDING THIS?

The symposium "designed for anyone involved in educating students in K-12
schools, community colleges, or four-year universities" is supported by the
United States Department of Agriculture's Cooperative State Research,
Education, and Extension Service (USDA-CSREES). Local sponsors are ISU
Extension and Iowa State's Office of Biotechnology.

One man representing the "lone voice of dissent" among the ranks of
pro-biotech symposium panelists is JOHN FAGAN of Genetic ID, who will speak
at 1:00 pm. on Monday, Oct. 9th, as an "Understanding Resistance to
Biotechnology" seminar panelist during the 3 day symposium.

For further information on GE food risks & current research please see www.
psrast.org, www.purefood.org, www.foodfirst.org, www.iatp.org,
www.thecampaign.org & www.ucs.org. Protest endorsed by Organic Consumers
Association, Iowa Sierra Club & Iowa Green Party members.
