TheSierra Club Iowa Chapter’s Annual Meeting will be held October 10 at the CrownPoint Community Center 6300 Pioneer Pkwy, Johnston.


 AllIowans are invited to gather from all four corners of the state to meet fellowenvironmentalists and hear guest speaker, the dynamic journalist SteveHorn.

GuestSpeaker:
SteveHorn is a Research Fellow at DeSmogBlogand a freelance investigative journalist based out of Madison, Wisconsin. 
Steve will present what he's learned through hisinvestigative reporting about the connection of money, the energy industry andpoliticians and decision makers, emphasizing the connection with Iowaissues.  Following Steve's presentation, we will have time for questionsand answers with exciting discussion about the issues Steve presented.  
 
Stevepreviously was a reporter and researcher at the Center for Media andDemocracy. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring inpolitical science and legal studies, his writing has appeared in Al JazeeraAmerica, The Guardian, Vice News, The Nation, Wisconsin Watch, Truth-Out,Alter Net and elsewhere.
SteveHorn’s published work includes dozens of articles published on alternative newswebsites such as CounterPunch.org.He has covered local and regional Midwestern issues as well as nationaland international concerns on energy andenvironmental and political issues. Topics he has coveredinclude “greenwashing” of hydraulic fracturing, the Keystone XL pipeline,the Obama administration’s embrace of fracking, the ties behind major U.S.oil and gas companies  with Russian state oil and gas companies, theprospect that the keystone XL pipeline could not only carry tar sands but alsooil extracted via hydraulic fracturing from North Dakota’s Bakken Shalebasin, the people and money behind an industry-friendly EnvironmentalDefense Fund, and a methane emissions study in an article titled, “InsideFrackedemia’s Latest Assault on Science.” 
Inhis free time, Steve is a competitive runner, with a personal best time of2:43:04 in the 2009 Boston Marathon.

Youdon’t have to be a Sierra Club member to attend the annual meeting.  Ifyou are not a member and would like to become one, we can provide you with amembership application.
Inaddition to our guest speaker, the Chapter will be presenting awards toindividuals and groups that have done outstanding work in protecting theenvironment.

FromI-80/I-35, take the Merle Hay Road exit and head north.  At PioneerParkway, turn west and travel to Crown Point where you will turn left(south).
