"Faith,Food and The Earth" is the title of a conference to be held on
May 11-12 at the Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center near Cedar
Rapids.  It is being sponsored by the environmental taskforces of The
Episcopal Churches of Iowa and The Northeast and Southeast Iowa Synods of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Our guest speakers and workshop leaders are

 Dr. Fred Kirschenmann, Director,
 Aldo Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, ISU

  Rev. Jay Robinson, United Church of Christ - Religious Outreach

  Coordinator, Iowa Network for Community Agriculture

   Regina Thibeau, Catfish Creek Coalition, Dubuque, IA

   Rich Leopold, IOWATER Coordinator

    LaVon Griffieon and Ed Fallon, 1000 Friends of Iowa

    Our three workshops will be:
1. Congregational Action and Resources:  How congregation members  can
work with others to meet common environmental objectives.   Led by
Matt Schulz, Zion Lutheran, Iowa City, and Carol Christensen and Carol
Winter, Trinity Episcopal, Iowa City.  A time to share ideas.

2. Slow Food:  Not fast food but food that is fresh, with close to home
ingredients, thoughtful and unhurried meal preparation, and convivial
sharing of food.  A look at ecological and spiritual aspects of
nourishing body and spirit.  Led by Anne Mundahl, Lord of Life Lutheran,
Dubuque,  and
Rev. Jay Robinson, United Church of Christ.

3. Congregational Energy Conservation:  Gas prices have risen.  Learn
practical ways to save energy, reduce costs, reduce  green house gases
released into the atmosphere at home and church.  Led by Wes Birdsell,
former Director of utilities, Osage, IA., and Consultant, University of
Northern Iowa Center for Environmental Education, Cedar Falls.

The conference begins on Friday night and continues through Saturday.
