Job Title :  Organizer

Job Description

Iowa Citizen Action Network (ICAN) is hiring an organizer to lead its Rural 
Economic Justice program. The organizer will execute organizing tasks and 
activities that engage ICAN members, affiliates, and other citizens in 
collective action in order to alter the relations of power in Iowa's rural 
communities, and improve the lives of rural Iowans.

Primary Position Responsibilities

… Identify, recruit and involve interested organizations as active partners 
in coalition-based campaign.
… Staff working groups, task forces and coalitions as needed to carry out 
campaign.
… Recruit, train and motivate organizational leaders as well as 
leaders of affiliated and allied organizations to play a key role in carrying 
out campaign.
… Develop a grassroots-lobbying network to support and enhance 
ICAN's direct lobbying program, including advising and assisting ICAN canvass 
leadership in developing and implementing strategies that mobilize ICAN 
members.
… Prepare and present informational materials on issues for ICAN staff, 
affiliates, members and the public.
… Design and implement an overall media advocacy strategy.

Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for an individual with a high level of energy and enthusiasm 
who is eager to work for a growing and dynamic statewide multi-issue 
coalition. 

Preferred qualifications include:
… Two or more years of organizing experience, preferably with a coalition or 
community organization.
… Commitment to progressive social change and economic and environmental 
justice.
… Basic knowledge of environmental, agricultural, energy, tax and health 
policy, and the ability to quickly assimilate information.
… Strong written and oral communication skills.
… Self-motivated with the ability to develop and follow through on a work 
plan with minimal supervision.
… Ability to build relationships and work with diverse individuals.
… Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines.

This is full-time salaried position, located in our Des Moines office.  The 
position is open immediately, and will remain open until filled. Competitive 
salary range and excellent benefit package. Specific salary is negotiable and 
commensurate with experience.
