Anatomy of Iowa Floods: Preparing for the Future 

Join us for a free seminar to help Iowans better understand recent flooding and how Iowa's communities can prepare for future floods. 

Locations* 

  a.. Burlington, June 16 - City Council Chambers 
  b.. Cedar Rapids, June 21 - Kirkwood Training & Outreach Services Building 
  c.. Waverly, June 30 - Waverly-Shell Rock High School Auditorium 
  d.. Mason City, July 14 - North Iowa Community College Muse Norris Center 
  e.. Ames, July 19 - City Council Chambers 
*all seminars take place from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. No registration required. Agenda 

  a.. See how changing trends in rainfall and water run-off impact Iowa 
  b.. Find out how your community can reduce future flood damage 
  c.. See how urban and rural Iowans work together to reduce flood impacts 
  d.. Learn why Cedar Falls is leading the nation in floodplain management 
  e.. See how the Iowa Flood Center works to minimize future flood damage 
  f.. Learn how new disaster-related state laws can help Iowans 
Presentations will be followed by a question and answer session. 

Following each seminar, refreshments will be served and free copies of the book "A Watershed Year: Anatomy of the Iowa Floods of 2008" will be available (quantities limited). 

The events are hosted by the University of Iowa's Center for Global & Regional Environmental Research, Rebuild Iowa Office, UNI Center for Energy and Environmental Education, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa State University Extension, Iowa League of Cities, and the Iowa State Association of Counties.
