This was first noticed by ICCI staff, Kari Cobler . I voted . The poll
is at the bottom of the web page on the left.
The Humboldt, Iowa newspaper (The Humboldt Indpendent) is running a poll
on its web page (www.humboldtnews.com) asking if people think the
Humboldt County Board of Supervisors should enact a 1-year moratorium on
factory farms. Anyone who visits the web page can vote. So far, very
few people even know about the poll, except Farm Bureau members and
factory farm supporters who have been voting. The poll results show
that 79% of the poll respondents do not want a moratorium! This is
totally unbelievable, given the local sentiment against factory
farms. We're asking you to consider voting in the poll.
To do this, go to the web page and then scroll down to the lower left
hand corner -- you'll see the poll there. You can vote and then submit
your vote.
Our Humboldt chapter has met with the Board of Health to push for the
moratorium, and will meet again with the Health Board on April 11th.
When we first met with the Health Board (at 7 a.m.) on March 13th, we
outnumbered Farm Bureau members almost 8 to 1. We had 23 people at the
meeting; FB had 3. We've been told that the paper's poll is a way for
FB to shoot us down before we get to the Supervisors. The paper has a
long history of supporting local farm factory proponents. Please cast
your vote in the poll.
Let us know if you have any questions or trouble getting to the web
page. Thanks!
