Lead shot in dogs:  I believe the Sierra Club argument against lead shot
is science based.  Metals and other chemicals eventually bread down and
end up in the water and soil and in the flesh of fish and other animals
from lead-shot and lead sinkers.  Eagles test positive for lead and the
California Condor was threatened with extinction from eating animals
containing lead ammunition.  On a deeply personal level, and what I
included when I wrote to my representatives, is an Xray on our rescued
dog Bandy, showed his body riddled with BB type particles found in bird
shot.  Our veterinarian said this was common in dogs in Southern Iowa.  

I'm pro responsible hunting. I compare the anti biotic and other chemical
tainted flesh of factory farm animals raised in cruel, inhumane
conditions to the flesh of free range wildlife--living free until death,
but some will contain lead in their flesh.

I have learned a lot from all of your research and thoughtful
conservations.  I don't want lead, a toxic material, in my environment.

I'm NOT "assuming" anything, Jane.  I was noting what I thought should be
a key point to document if one is making the case against lead shot. 
Just because I have fired a shotgun at game birds in years past, and
appreciate the hunting experience, one should not assume that I support
the use of lead shot in hunting of mourning doves.
