Hello Arctic Activists!

This weekend you might have heard President Obama push to drill in the
Arctic for more domestic oil production. Luckily, this will leave the
Arctic Refuge "off the table." This has spurred pro-drillers to write to
their newspapers calling for an "all of the above" policy, also known as
"drill baby drill." We need to overtake their voices by supporting this
smart decision to keep the Refuge wild.

Submit a "letter to the editor" now to your local paper. Below is an
example, but make your own changes. Show that the public demands smart
energy decisions that protect our national treasures!

Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge "off the table" (178
words)

Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is "off the table, and we
do not support development there," said a senior White House official
this past week. I couldn't agree more -- the Arctic Refuge is our
nation's greatest wildlife icon and it deserves the strongest possible
protections. Fifty years ago, the Arctic Refuge was set aside for "its
unique wildlife, wilderness, and recreational values." Today, the Arctic
Refuge is home to threatened polar bears, grizzly bears, wolves,
wolverines, musk oxen, caribou and more.

I am relieved the administration sees the Arctic Refuge for what it is--a
national treasure. More domestic drilling will not stop our pain at the
pump -- the U.S. consumes 25 percent of the world's oil, but we have less
than 3 percent of the world's proven oil reserves. Instead of just paying
into Big Oil's profits, it is time that our elected officials stand up
and protect our nation's natural heritage. Now is the time for Congress
to take the next step and grant the strongest possible protections for
our Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
