The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) is soliciting applications
immediately for one position on the Conservation Governance Committee (CGC).
See application below. If you are interested in applying or if you know of
someone who is well qualified, please feel free to forward this application
and encourage them to apply.

It is expected that an appointment to the twelve-person CGC will
be made by the Board of Directors on its December or January conference
call.

Desirable qualifications of potential appointees include (but are not
limited to):
broad experience across a diversity of conservation issues; experience with
and leadership of large conservation campaigns; understanding of the Club's
conservation infrastructure; ability to communicate and interact effectively
with volunteer leaders at national and local levels; and the time to commit
to the CGC, including attendance at up to three face-to-face meetings per
year, participation in at least monthly conference calls, and time between
meetings to conduct CGC assignments and related business.
A Search Team composed of Jan O?Connell (Chair), Donald Parks (CGC member),
Joni Bosh (Board of Directors representative) will review applications,
contact references, conduct interviews, and recommend an appointee to the
Board of Directors.

Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement. Please contact [log in to unmask] for information on the
criteria required for SCC members to be appointed as liaisons or members to
CGC and its subentities. The Sierra Club of Canada web site is
http://www.sierraclub.ca.
The CGC oversees entities that coordinate work in three broad areas,
consisting of conservation issues, the Club's political program, and the
regional conservation structures.

The CGC is one of six governance committees formed during the Club's
restructuring in 1994. The CGC implements, oversees, and coordinates the
Sierra Club's conservation work with primary focus at the national level.
It makes recommendations to the Board of Directors about the Club's
conservation policies and priorities, and attempts to resolve
controversies about the interpretation of conservation policies and
conflicts between national and local policies. CGC works with the Club's
other governance committees and
Council of Club Leaders. It oversees fifteen conservation entities
directly, and it indirectly oversees all of their subentities.

The current members of the CGC include the following:
Jan O?Connell (CGC Chair), Judy Kunofsky (CGC Vice Chair),
Jim Catlin (Board Appt), Doris Cellarius, Jim Dougherty (Board Appt),
Robin Mann (Board Appt), Donald Parks, Ellen Pillard (Board Appt),
