Iowa DNR NewsEnvironmental Services Division For immediate release Aug. 27, 2007 Note to editors: This discharge is in addition to a news release sentearlier today regarding bypasses. POSSIBLE SMALL BYPASS TO EAST LAKE OKOBOJI SATURDAY NIGHT MEDIA CONTACT: Neil Cook at (712) 262-4177 or (712) 260-1730. SPENCER – The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District reported a possiblebypass from a manhole on the east side of East Lake Okoboji Saturdaynight. Sanitary district staff noticed a pump failure near the Arthur Heightslift station at 9:18 p.m. and high water levels in the lift station at9:27. They responded to the pump failure and fixed the problem by 10:13p.m. When they examined the area around the lift station that night,they saw no signs of a bypass. However on Monday, when staff revisited the site in daylight, there wassome indication that untreated wastewater had discharged from themanhole. Staff members do not know the volume of the discharge or if itreached the lake. # # #
