SPECIES ON AND OFF STATE LIST: The Iowa Natural
Resources Commission
has removed the bobcat and river otter from the
state's list of
endangered and threatened species and added the
spotted skunk,
southern
bog lemming, slender glass lizard, Blanding's
turtle, wood turtle and
speckled kingsnake says the Des Moines Register
10/12. While an
"elaborate" state reintroduction program was
credited with boosting
otter populations, a "drop in trapping caused by low
pelt prices
probably helped" the bobcats.
