Transcript: Increasing an understanding of erosion

A group of agronomists at Iowa State University wishes to increase awareness of one of Iowa’s greatest environmental issues: topsoil erosion.

This is the Iowa Environmental Focus.

As the need for food increases there is pressure to compromise erosion protection in favor of greater grain production. This combined with increased heavy rainfall causes an unsustainable amount of soil erosion in Iowa.

To help reduce soil loss a team at ISU has developed a better system for estimating Iowa’s soil erosion.

This information is displayed on the Iowa Daily Erosion Project website in order to increase awareness, and help ensure that erosion control efforts are focused on areas with the greatest need.

For more information about the Iowa Daily Erosion Project, visit IowaEnvironmentalFocus.org.

I’m Jerry Schnoor from the UI Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research.

Thank You.

End.
