TUESDAY, MAY 2: Tuesday Weekly Hikes Begin, Sierra Club
Tuesday Evening Hikes resume on May 2 and run through August 29. They are
held at a different location each week around the Greater Des Moines Area,
begin at 6:30 p.m., and end around 8 p.m. This is a great way to get to know
hiking areas you may have never visited, or to revisit old favorite trails.
At each week's hike, the location for the following week will be announced.

**The May 2 hike will combine two areas, Thomas Mitchell County Park and
Strasser Woods State Preserve. Many of the hikes in May will focus on areas
with spring wildflowers.

For May hikes, please contact Doug at 277-1263 or
[log in to unmask] to sign up each week so that he can provide you
with directions and notify you if there is any change in plans. You may
request to be placed on an email list to automatically be notified of each
week's hike and any changes. Difficulty level is easy to moderate. Hiking
boots or sturdy walking shoes are recommended, as are light weight long
pants and mosquito repellent. Bring rain gear whenever the weather suggests
a chance of rain.

THURSDAY, MAY 4: Citizen Transportation Congress
The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will be holding
the third Citizen Transportation Congress on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 7:00
p.m. in the Roosevelt High School Library.

The Des Moines Area MPO wants to hear your views on transportation issues in
the Des Moines metropolitan area. The Citizen Transportation Congress does
not focus on one particular topic; rather it is a forum for the discussion
of general transportation issues.

The public is invited to bring questions and comments to the Citizen
Transportation Congress. The Des Moines Area MPO staff will receive from
the public their concerns and will relay those comments to the appropriate
officials, committees, and/or agencies. If anyone has questions or concerns,
please contact Andrew Jensen by telephone at (515) 334-0075, or by email at
[log in to unmask] Written correspondence also may be addressed to the Des
Moines Area MPO, Merle Hay Centre - 6200 Aurora Avenue, Suite 300W,
Urbandale, IA 50322-2866.
