The Iowa Chapter is asking that you write to the Army Corps of Engineers about the Dakota Access Pipeline Environmental Impact Statement.
Tell the US Army Corps ofEngineers that they need to expand the Notice of Intent to do an Environmental ImpactStatement (EIS) for the entire route of the Dakota Access pipeline. The EIS should include:
1) Tribal consultation across the entire pipeline route.
2) Federal siting criteria and the Corps Nationwide Permit need to equallyprotect rural peoples. Currently urban areas get more protection. Tribaland rural areas are considered “low consequence” and therefore not subject tothe same construction standards, the same monitoring requirements, nor do theyhave a robust emergency response plan. Rural and tribal areas deserve thesame safety protections as others.
3) The cumulative impacts and long-term threats to drinking water andclimate must be fully accounted for in the EIS.
