House panels plan energy bill markups

A Possible Wednesday vote in the House Ways and Means Committee on opening
the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas exploration.......

The Ways & Means and Resources committees are expected to
take up their portion of the energy bill, rounding out what
should be a hectic week of committee haggling on energy.

While Ways and Means has yet committed to a specific time for
its markup, Resources Chairman Richard Pombo (R-Calif.) is
looking at Wednesday to vote on opening the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas exploration. Also up is language
that would help North America become more "energy independent"
by streamlining renewable energy projects on federal lands.

This is all in anticipation of a House vote on a comprehensive
energy bill sometime next week.

Schedule: The Energy and Commerce Committee markup starts at 2
p.m. tomorrow in 2123 Rayburn. The Resources Committee markup
starts at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, in 1324 Longworth.
