Wayne Peterson of the NRCS, an urban conservationist, will speak about no
run-off urban planning at the April meeting of the Story County Water
Quality Coalition in Ames.
By using native species, Iowans can develop and maintain yards that will
hold moisture, refreshing the aquifers deep underground from which many
cities take their drinking water, and greatly reduce run-off from yards,
roads and sidewalks, a major source of non-point pollution in our streams.
The meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library, 515
Douglas Avenue between 5th and 6th Street in Ames, Iowa at 7 p.m.
Take the Ames exit from highway 35 and highway 30 to the Duff Avenue
exit. Proceed north through our floodplain sprawl, past Linconway and the
railroad. Turn left at 5th or 6th street. The library is one block west
between 5th and 6th. There is a parking lot north of the library on 6th
street.
