Manure lawsuit verdict takes blame off farmer
By JERRY PERKINS • REGISTER FARM EDITOR • February 1, 2008

Patterson, Ia. - Dust kicked up by a four-year legal battle over the spreading of hog manure is clearing on a Madison County gravel road called Rustic Avenue.Neighbors who live across the road from each other have been on opposite sides of a lawsuit that could have affected the way Iowa hog producers manage their operations, as more people look for homes in the country. The long-running legal tussle ended last week when a Polk County jury handed Iowa's hog producers a major legal victory, said lawyer Brian Rickert, who represented defendants Tim and Glenna Camp and Al and Rachel Pangborn.

Politicians pump up Iowa biofuels industry Thursday
ASSOCIATED PRESS • February 1, 2008

Lt. Gov. Patty Judge offered a bullish assessment of Iowa's renewable fuels industry on Thursday, crediting it with giving Iowa stability even as the country grasps with a laggard economy."The renewable fuels industry is having a direct impact on the people who live closest to the land - Iowa's farmers," she told about 600 people at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association's Second Annual Summit.Judge was a late replacement for Gov. Chet Culver, who had been expected to address the summit. Instead, he was in Washington cloistered with other governors and congressmen discussing a federal economic stimulus package.
