Request for Applications - Water Committee ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STRATEGY TEAM SEEKS MEMBERS FOR WATER COMMITTEE Do you agree we need clean water?  Do you have 5 or so hours monthly tocontribute volunteer leadership towards promoting clean water, defendingthe Clean Water Act from rollbacks and working to help Sierra Club cleanwater activists in their effectiveness?  The EQST is currently invitingmember applications to fill three (3) positions on the National WaterCommittee. COMMITTEE OVERVIEW Sierra Club’s Water Committee works towards long-term Clean Water policyand implementation issues. Members promote these issues through education,research, community outreach, material development, training the club’sclean water activists, direct lobbying, etc. as well as developing SierraClub policies and guidelines. Historically the scope of work on clean water issues runs the gamut ofwater quality standards, anti-degradation, safe drinking water, wetlandsprotection, factory farms, cruise ship pollution and reform of the Corp ofEngineers; to that extent they have monitored enforcement and commented onstate & federal laws, and assisted local clean water activists withmaterial development, trainings, research, etc. COMMITTEE POSITIONS The open positions entail pre-scheduled monthly telephone calls withcommittee members across the country (currently first Tuesday of the monthat 8pm EST). In addition to the monthly call, committee membersperiodically participate in e-mails, and administrative tasks promotingclean water. The committee currently coordinates with Sierra Club’s National Safe &Healthy Communities Conservation Initiative Committee, the Water SentinelsProgram, the Marine Committee, the Rivers Committee, and the WaterPrivatization Task Force to facilitate clean water protections across thecountry. APPLICATION PROCESS and DEADLINE Appointments to the Committee are made by EQST, based on the applicationand phone interviews with prospective candidates.  Interviewers willrepresent EQST and the Committee.  If you are interested in submitting yourname for consideration, please read and follow the instructions completely.If you know of others who might be interested, please pass thisannouncement on to them. Statement of why you would like to serve on the Water Committee,4.    Three (3) references, including one from the state’s chapterchairperson.
