My reply -

We do consider the issue more broadly then just lead in shot used to kill doves. I have lobbied to increase the amount of money the state spends on lead abatement to protect humans. We have done work on the effect of lead on eagles before the legislature voted on a dove season. A couple of years ago we got a grant from national and made a brochure on lead poisoning in eagles. Yes, we would like a ban in lead shot, period. The ban on lead shot was done as part of the NRC rule making regarding the season on doves. That is why we are talking about doves. It is that simple. Ideally we would like to ban lead in anything and the state should spend money to get it safely out of our products/homes/business to protect humans and wildlife.

As Cindy reminded us - no matter when or who- some hunters don't want to change. They want to use lead shot. The Sierra Club is not pointlessly antagonizing hunters. We don't pointlessly do anything. As I have said this effort relates to a dove season that was being discussed by the Iowa's NRC and it is not revenge.
