I apologize for cross-postings.

There are two important meetings this week in Polk County. We would like as
many people as possible to attend these meetings. If you can attend only
one, the Wednesday meeting would be the better of the two to attend. If
you'd like more information about these, contact me at [log in to unmask] or
223-5047.
Thanks,
Jane Clark

As if Iowans had public land to spare:

1) There is a public information meeting about a MidAmerican powerline that
is proposed to run right past Carney Marsh. Carney Marsh is a nice little
wetland area south of Ankeny that the county and local conservationists
worked several years to protect. This meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
January 8 at the Best Western in Ankeny (just off I-35 on First Street).
This powerline could be hazardous to the herons and waterfowl that frequent
the marsh.

2) There is an item on the Polk County Conservation Board agenda for this
Wednesday, listed as "Iowa Primate Learning Center".
*This is believed to be a Ted Townsend project, to turn the county's Ft. Des
Moines Park into a chimpanzee research center. It is to be called the Iowa
Primate Learning Center. This park is in the southern part of Des Moines,
not far from Blank Park Zoo. The park includes a nice timber, a small
fishing lake, a few shelter houses, and some valuable and peaceful
greenspace for southsiders.
*There will be a proposal presented at the Polk County Conservation Board's
meeting this coming Wednesday, January 9th. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
and this item is near the end of the agenda. The meeting will be held in
the county administrative building at 1st and Court, room 120.
