HOG MANURE LEADS TO FISH KILL NEAR WAPELLO IN LOUISA COUNTY

WAPELLO – The DNR is investigating a fish kill in Otter Creek west of the City of Wapello.
 
At least five miles of the stream appear to have been affected. 
 
DNR investigators have established that the fish kill was caused by a manure spill from a hog confinement. A representative of Tri-Oak reported a manure spill to the DNR’s Washington field office on Monday morning, indicating the spill had occurred on Saturday. 
 
The DNR will continue to investigate and will conduct a count of the fish killed. Fish restitution and appropriate legal action will be considered.

 HEAVY RAIN LEADS TO BYPASS IN WILLIAMS

WILLIAMS – About four inches of rain Saturday and Sunday led to a bypass in the City of Williams.
 
The city pumped about 50,000 gallons of untreated wastewater from a manhole to a ditch in rural Williams from 5:30 to 8 a.m. on Monday. 
 
The wastewater flowed underground for about three miles in a tile line, then into the Big 4 drainage ditch which flows into the South Fork of the Iowa River.
