Just a quick reminder that there is still time to sign up for the 1st Annual
Volunteers in Natural Resources Conference, coming up this November 16-17,
at the Hotel Fort Des Moines.

Please consider attending this inaugural event. In light of our current
status of reduced budgets and the diverse demands on our limited natural
resources, a part of the conference is dedicated to strategies for gaining
public support for our unique native habitats. Workshop topics include
environmental ethics, water quality issues, information on funding sources
for conservation and restoration projects, identifying critical volunteer
projects such as invasive species control and streambank stabilization, how
to gain financial and public support for our natural resources, and forming
"Friends" groups for natural areas.

We'd also like to encourage groups or organizations to sign up for display
space (no extra charge) when you register. Let us showcase your group and
possibly help you recruit new members.

Attached you will find an itinerary and registration form. (You can also
register online through www.iowater.net.) Registration is $25 for the
two-day event, and includes keynote address, round table discussions, hors
d'oeuvres and the Carter and Connelley concert on Friday; keynotes and
lunch, refreshments and breakout conference sessions of your choice on
Saturday.

After November 9th, it would be best to fax your registration form to
Stefanie Forret at (515)281-8895 and pay the fee at the door.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at the conference. Now, more than
ever, Iowa needs active, knowledgeable volunteers and advocates for our
natural resources.

Thanks,

Diane Ford-Shivvers
