MEDIA CONTACT: Josh Sobaski at (563)927-2640
The city of Burlington bypassed an estimated 500,000 gallons of untreated wastewater to the Mississippi River after a pump failure Monday.
City staff indicated the wastewater began bypassing at about 3:45 a.m. and the discharge lasted about one hour.
The wastewater discharged from the pumping station near Market Street after a power surge occurred during a storm.
