Friends and colleagues,
Here is the link to the climate movement-building survey we alerted you to
in an email several weeks ago. We want everyone’s input on the critical
next steps the Sierra Club must take against climate disruption.
With this survey’s information, and with additional input gathered at
upcoming meetings, the Climate Movement Task Force will develop a set of
recommendations for the Board of Directors to consider in April 2014. This
survey is the first step in the process.

We appreciate you taking some extra time to fully explore the breadth and
depth of the survey. We want to hear your opinions and recommendations in
order to help us see the full perspective of the Sierra Club family.
We are sending this as far and wide as possible, but we know some may be
missed. *Please forward this to all of your Sierra Club volunteer networks.*
By engaging the full spectrum of our staff, volunteers, members, and
supporters -- and employing the most effective tactics at the local, state
and national levels -- we will inspire legions of new people to join the
movement.
Please fill this survey out by no later than Wednesday, September 11, 2013.

*BACKGROUND*
When President Obama gave his historic climate disruption speech this
summer, he included many of the solutions the Sierra Club has been fighting
for. With the exception of his misguided comments about natural gas and
nuclear, the president’s speech sounded as if it came from our own talking
points – another exciting validation of our longstanding work addressing
the climate crisis.
Now, together we must activate a climate movement that reaches across the
breadth and depth of America. For the next phase of our fight, all of our
campaigns must work together even more closely, and include even more
volunteer involvement, to hit climate disruption head on.
We three, acting as a task force, intend to maximize volunteer input in
shaping the Sierra Club’s next steps in building the climate movement.
Beyond the survey given in this email, we will discuss cross-campaign
coordination on climate disruption at the Council of Club Leaders meeting
and at other venues where staff and volunteers come together.
Also, on Sept. 28 and 29 we will convene a diverse group of 40 invited
staff and volunteer leaders in San Francisco. Participants in this meeting
will look at what the Sierra Club has done historically to promote climate
solutions, as well as analyze responses to the survey, in order to build a
conceptual framework that holds together the Club's climate movement work.
The group will also recommend tactics to build the climate movement and
coordinate activities across existing national campaigns, chapters, and
groups.
This process will enable the Sierra Club to become bigger, stronger and
more effective, and history will remember that we helped lead the way
toward solving the 21st Century’s most important crisis.
Sincerely,
The Climate Movement Task Force
Spencer Black, Vice-President, Sierra Club Board of Directors
Robin Mann, Member, Sierra Club Board of Directors Sarah Hodgdon, National
Program Director
