Take Action on this item:
Call your member of Congress!
Dear Alaska Activist,
Undoubtedly you’ve noticed that gas prices have been rising, and some
experts predict that they will rise even further. Eager to exploit this
situation for political gains, proponents of drilling in America’s Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge are now citing the high gas prices as an excuse
to drill for oil in the Refuge.
As early as next week, the US House of Representatives may consider
energy legislation that they claim will help stem the rising price of
gas. Unfortunately, some members of Congress are viewing this
legislation as an opportunity for another sneak attack on America’s
Arctic Refuge.
In reality, drilling in America’s Arctic Refuge would do nothing at all
to lower gas prices this year, or next year, or even the year after that.
According to the Department of Energy’s own analysts, drilling in the
Arctic Refuge would at most lower gas prices by about a penny and not for
another twenty years. This latest drilling scheme isn't about gas prices
and helping consumers – it's about giving the oil industry another big
gift when they're already rolling in record profits. Congress has
already wasted more than 20 years debating this issue. Enough is enough.
Now is the time to talk about real solutions for America’s energy needs.
Please take a moment and call your representative – tell them that
drilling in America’s Arctic Refuge will do nothing to solve high gas
prices and will only save us a penny twenty years from now. Urge them to
vote against any legislation that would give away the Arctic Refuge to
Big Oil.
