Late word is that Senator Harkin is likely to vote in support of Senator
Bond and against the Missouri River tonight during the debate on Sen.
Bond's anti-endangered species rider. Senator Harkin is being deluged by
navigation interests and seems to be leaning towards supporting Sen. Bond's
rider.
This is a major problem, and it does not bode well for the Missouri River.
You have all done a great job contacting Richard Bender in Sen. Harkin's
office, but apparently your viewpoint needs more airing to make a
difference. Even if you have already talked to Richard, please contact him
again TODAY at 202-224-3254 and tell him you want the chance to review all
the options for managing the river, that you don't want Congress picking
and
choosing what information the public gets to review, and you don't want
Senator Harkin to support the extinction of Missouri River species.
The vote on this rider is to happen tonight starting at around 5:00 p.m.
Central time. So, any calls you and your colleagues and friends can make
today to Richard would be very helpful.
Thanks for hanging in there on this. You have all been extraordinary in
the
help you have provided on this effort. We just need one more last push to
make sure Senator Harkin comes down on the right side of this issue!
