See the message below. Sierra Club members or any conservationist/environmentalist needs to be at this meeting. This happens to be at the same time the Chapter Executive Committee is having a strategic planning meeting. Because the Topics listserve is open to the public, I can't do much more then make an announcement. Please let me know if you want to go and report back to the chapter what happened or if you want to be the official spokesperson for the club. I will give you our talking points. My name is Debbie Neustadt <[log in to unmask]>. 515-263-0297.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is proposing additional shallow water habitat projects as an Endangered Species Act compliance requirement for operation of the Missouri River system and the Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project. On Iowa land, nine similar projects have been previously completed, one project is under construction, and two projects are currently in the planning and design phase.
State leaders are interested in hearing stakeholder input and perspectives on these projects. Information on a stakeholder meeting to help gain such input can be found below. The meeting will include an overview presentation from USACE officials and then a discussion of questions and comments from attendees.
