Very interesting.  And I agree that global population  stabilization is 
essential if any significant portion of the natural world  is to survive. 
 
But has any society figured out how to run a successful economy based  on a 
stable population, which I assume would mean a relatively small number of  
young people and a large number of seniors?   What I keep reading  about are 
countries with low birthrates that are reluctantly or  enthusiastically allowing 
immigration because they believe the population  growth enabled by immigration 
is essential to their future.  And the  reason, as I understand it, is that 
economic prosperity, as we  currently define it, depends on growth.   
 
Is that true?  If so, what do we do about it?
